Sponsored by TAIP Tacoma Creates, The Diaspora in Rhythm: Legacy in Soul – The New Jack Era is designed to celebrate and uplift the cultural contributions of the African American diaspora through accessible dance education and performance. Over the course of six weeks, youth (ages 8–17) and adults (ages 18+) will participate in free, cohort-based classes at Eastside Community Center, where they will study and rehearse hip hop, majorette, contemporary, and jazz, with a special emphasis on the styles and influence of the New Jack Era. Guided by Coach TQ, participants will build technique, confidence, and performance skills in a supportive environment, while also connecting movement to cultural history and community identity. The series culminates in a free community showcase, where dancers share their artistry with family, friends, and the public, transforming the stage into a space of legacy, rhythm, and celebration.
